Clash Championships Brixton London
Roman Carnell was due to fight on the S3 show in Birmingham in February but unfortunately his opponent pulled out due to illness.
After desperately looking for a show we eventually found a promoter James Toomey who kindly agreed to try and find a suitable match for Roman on his show in Brixton in London yesterday.
After a number of possibilities we were finally offered a match with a local London fighter called Kimani. Kimani is experienced being a 2x ISKA Muay Thai and K1 champion, WMO European champion!!! It was this fight or none and a difficult call but after checking him out we thought Roman would give him a good fight and win or lose it would be a great learning fight for him.
It wasn’t the usual show, the fight was 3×2 min rounds, N class rules and it was a very small venue with no seating and no Muay Thai round or Ram Muay music!! It had a real gritty fight club feel to it.
The fight was a good Muay Thai bout with both fighters using good solid Muay Thai techniques throughout.
Kimani had a slightly higher work rate than Roman in the first round and scored well with his hands and low kicks. Roman used his body kicks well and scored well in the clinch.
In the second round Roman stepped up the pace scoring well with both hands and legs with some good exchanges but Kimani was just that little bit sharper and more accurate, especially with his hands.
The third round saw Roman giving everything, he needed a KO to win. Kimani’s boxing was definitely his strength which dominated the fight but there was some excellent exchanges with Roman coming back at times with solid punches, kicks to the body and good clinch work.
It was a great fight and although Kimani rightfully won every round Roman was always in the fight and showed great Sheffield courage and resilience against a better more experienced fighter and gave Kimani a good run for his money. We thank him for the opportunity.
What an excellent performance by Roman on his 4th fight giving him invaluable experience. Although it was a long long day it was well worth the 15 hour round trip…….(I’d forgotten why we don’t fight on London shows🫠)
Many thanks to James Toomey the Promoter, Chilli, Summa, Riley and Leah (Roman’s family) Franky and Abir our two loyal supporters and Roo my second man and lovely son.
