Hello from 🌞Turkey and we hope all is well in the UK. Just an update if you didn’t catch the post or link yesterday to watch Franky’s fight.

Franky Sandor (GB🇬🇧) vs Leo Raty (Finland🇫🇮) 12-13yr -46kg

This was Franky’s first proper full IFMA event and he was the first GB fighter to fight. He was less experienced than his opponent and was obviously nervous, but not too nervous.

IFMA (amateur junior) style is all about scoring with good clean shots through high work rate and good Thai technique. The fights are 3 x 2minute rounds with 1 minute rests.

Franky started well with good footwork and good technique. He used his push kick well and landed some good single shots. He looked the stronger boxer but Leo’s work rate was higher. The second round Franky had to increase his output. He knocked his opponent to the ground with well timed push kick and landed some accurate head shots but again Leo landed more. By the third round Leo was ahead, Franky had his best round though with higher work rate and again using his push kick well, his defence was good but just didn’t counter enough so it wasn’t enough to win the fight but good enough for a bronze medal.🥉

A really good fight against a quality opponent. Franky fought very well and the UKMF coaching team are very happy with his progression. He continues to grow and learn from each fight and understands what he needs to do for next time, at 14 yrs old that is a mature understanding. He accepts that the process is more important than the outcome, he’s happy and is exactly where he needs to be, what more can we ask.

He asked me to thank everyone for their support and a special thank you to OGC Energy for sponsoring Franky’s flight.

Roo is fighting in the semi finals on Monday. He’s had to keep focused and stay on weight all week!!! 6 days is a long time to do that!!
