A good first day for all with all fighters giving their best.
Wicker Camp fighters…
Franky Sandor Wicker Camp (12-13yr -44kg) was straight into the semi-final for his first fight. This was a good first fight for Franky who was very nervous. He used his punches and kicks well and landed some good head shots and scored well in the clinch. However, his opponent had a slightly higher work rate overall and used his boxing much more effectively catching Franky a few times with fast flurries which won him the fight on points.
Roo March-Mullaney Wicker Camp (14-15yr -67kg) was straight into the semi-final on his first fight. Roo was very nervous but got straight in with a high work rate and scored well with lots of different techniques landing some solid head kicks and elbows. He used his footwork equally very well and comfortably won on points and through to the final tomorrow.
Sebastian Holub Wicker Camp (14-15yr -57kg) fights tomorrow straight into the finals.
Other UK Team Squad
Byron Collingswood (12-13yr -50kg) had two fights today, quarter final and semi-final. Fighting in a higher weight category he had his work cut out. He fought well in the quarter final using good solid techniques scoring clean shots and won comfortably on points. His semi final was a much tougher fight against a much bigger heavier opponent who had fast hands. Byron dug in deep closing his opponent down into the clinch to score more with his knees. He landed some strong leg and head kicks and showed immense courage to win on points and through to the final tomorrow.
Harry Moore (14-15yr -71kg) had two fights, quarter final and semi final. Harry performed very well in the quarter final dominating his opponent from the start landing a solid cross to the head and forcing an eight count, he then went on to stop his opponent late in the first round with a solid left hook. His semi-final was equally impressive winning the first round with good solid punches and landing strong knees to the body. Continuing with that he eventually stopped his opponent with knees to the body in the second round going through to the final tomorrow.
Mohammed Haider (12-13yr -50kg) was straight into the semi-final. Haider was nervous and although he had a slow first round it was close. He found his range in the second and third rounds using better punch and kick combinations wearing his opponent down to win on points and secure a place in the final tomorrow.
