A very long day for the Wicker Camp team at Barnsley Metrodome yesterday with 7 fighters competing from junior to senior A class level.
Results
Franky Sandor (Wicker) vs Dainton Evans (Celtic Pride) Junior rules.
A great performance from both fighters showing good all round skill and technique. Franky used his ringcraft very well, evading attack and countering with good strong kicks and punches. It was a well matched contest but Franky was stronger and sharper in the end. A good solid points victory to Franky.
Roo March-Mullaney (Wicker) vs Logan Bower (Tricia’s) Junior rules.
This was another very good match on paper and proved that in the ring. Both fighters had good technique and style. In the first two rounds Roo was nervous and tense and he struggled to let go a little which gave Logan the edge. From the 3rd round Roo relaxed and really came into the fight using great footwork and countering skills. Roo scored well with excellent punch kick combinations and was slightly more dominant in the clinch. A good technical fight to watch and points victory for Roo.
Hanniyah Hamdi (Wicker) vs Teah Vowles (Celtic Pride) N class rules.
This was Hanniyah’s first senior N class bout against a slightly more experienced and heavier opponent. Another good technical fight to watch with both girls giving everything with some good strong boxing exchanges and kicking combinations. Hanniyah used her leg kick and right hand very well whilst Teah was slightly stronger in the clinch and was a bit sharper all round. An excellent performance from Hanniyah for her first adult fight with a close points decision going to Teah Vowles.
Henry Chester (Wicker) vs Rios Clinton (Iceni). C class rules.
This was Henry’s 2nd fight against a slightly more experienced opponent. Again a good technical fight to watch with some both fighters exchanging good kicks, punches and knees. They used their footwork well but Rios was always a bit sharper, faster and got stronger as the fight progressed. Henry got caught with a really good solid punch at the very end of the 4th round. At the end of the minutes rest we all felt he was not 100% to continue and we retired him. This was definitely the right decision to make, our primary responsibility is to keep our fighters safe. Henry gave a good solid 4 rounds against a very good opponent.
Guillem Martinez (Wicker) vs Kyle Seddon (HKS) C class rules.
This was Guillem’s 3rd fight against a slightly more experienced opponent. Kyle was also Southpaw with a very long range. It was a good fight with both fighters using a range of techniques, Kyle used his long straight punches and body kicks well whilst Guillem was stronger in the clinch, scored well with his knees and close range boxing. A close fight which we thought we had 3 rounds but the judges decision went in favour of Kyle Seddon. A good solid performance from Guillem.
Hasan Raja (Wicker) vs Luke Seddon (Wicker) C class rules.
A great fight to watch with Luke being more experienced, 9 fights to Hasan’s 4 but Hasan always delivers an exciting performance. From the start Hasan got stuck in with lovely long punches and relentless head kicks. Luke replied with strong punches and kicks but Hasan always countered. His ringcraft is lovely to watch and his relaxed style is deceivingly dangerous. A really good fight for Hasan against a really good strong opponent. A solid points victory for Hasan.
James Pierce (Wicker) vs Dom Hill (Skemersdale) A class British Title.
A difficult start to this fight from the day before as James really struggled to make the weight and was 2kg over which forced a financial penalty.
Dom was also the lesser experienced of the two but has a very good reputation as being a tough fighter.
It was a very good fight to watch with a steady Thai style and both fighters showing good skill and timing. James’s boxing was slightly sharper and used his right uppercut very well. Dom landed some strong kicks with James replying with solid counters. In the 4th round James landed a solid left body kick that dropped Dom who took an 8 count. He came back but James caught him again with a left body hook which hurt him and finally dropped him again and the referee stopped the fight. A fantastic performance from James and a new British Champion for Wicker Camp.
